KAVOD

The Independent Jewish Funeral Chapels

With changes occurring in the funeral industry, a core group of Jewish funeral directors came together in 2002 to share ideas and concerns inherent to the independently owned Jewish funeral home. Discussion turned to the possibility of forming an organization that would advance and support the ideals of this honored profession.  Sam Green was one of those directors.   From this small group was the founding of the National Independent Jewish Funeral Directors.  Within a short time, the group felt the name needed to reflect the mitzvah they were performing for their families.  The Hebrew word KAVOD was chosen for its meaning, honor.   The organization officially changed its name to KAVOD-The Independent Jewish Funeral Chapels and now has over 50 member locations in the United States and Canada.

An organization of INDEPENDENTLY OWNED firms throughout the United States and Canada.
